The Yvonne S. Templeton Shell Gallery
features the Ann and Albert Becker Shell Collection Albert and Ann Becker began collecting shells in 1953. They collected shells throughout the world. You would think that shell collectors would live along a coastal area, but the Beckers lived in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, where Ann still resides. The donation of the collection was facilitated by Linda Becker Dean, their niece who lives here in Gulf Stream. It was the Beckers' hope that the public would be allowed access to the amazing collection: a goal that is being realized at the Sandoway House Nature Center. The collection includes 10,000 shells from around the world including Delray Beach. Many of the finest shells are on display here at the Sandoway House. The collection is meticulously catalogued and accompanied by a library of books about the natural history of shells.
